Purpose

The North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity is a multidisciplinary association of scholars from the behavioral sciences and related professions. The Society functions to:

  • Develop and advance the scientific study of human behavior when individuals are engaged in sport and physical activity

  • Facilitate the dissemination of information

  • Improve the quality of research and teaching in the psychology of sport, motor development, and motor learning and control

Leadership

NASPSPA is led by a Board of Directors consisting of a President, a President-Elect, the immediate Past-President, a Secretary-Treasurer, a Communication Director, and a Student Representative. The Past-President’s Liaison also serves on the Board of Directors as an ex-officio member. The Board of Directors meets monthly to conduct NASPSPA business. The Board of Director’s management of the Annual Meeting is facilitated by the Executive Director.

Membership

Annual memberships for NASPSPA run for the calendar year (January 1 – December 31) and can be initiated or renewed for the next calendar year beginning October 1. Multiple-year memberships are also available. By joining NASPSPA, you join the ranks of a society which is committed to the promotion of the fields of Motor Behavior and Sport and Exercise Psychology. This commitment is demonstrated through:

  • The dissemination of knowledge from these fields at the annual conference

  • An emphasis on the professional development of students

  • The maintenance of professional contacts with corporations developing research equipment, publications, etc. related to these fields

Newsletter

The NASPSPA newsletter typically includes announcements of interest to the membership, scholarly abstracts, invited articles, and other material considered appropriate. Current and past newsletters are available to current members who are signed in to the website.

The NASPSPA newsletter is published three times per year (Fall, Winter, Spring). NASPSPA Members are encouraged to submit relevant information or previously unpublished articles for consideration for publication in the newsletters. These submissions might be relevant to topics such as professional practice, ethics, or the state of the science. The Board of Directors will decide whether or not such submissions will be published in the newsletter. Please submit articles to the Communication Director.

Bylaws and Policy Manual

The NASPSPA Bylaws and Policy Manual contain detailed information regarding the governance of NASPSPA, the Duties of the NASPSPA officers, the Annual Meeting, NASPSPA Awards, Financial Policies, and Publications.
